It has caused great expectation in the computer science world, specifically in world PC the presentation and next launching of Windows Vista, the following generation of the operating system of Microsoft. Before that fact, they have not lacked the comparisons with other operating systems, like Linux and of course, with Mac OS X in its present version: Tiger (10.4).
When the specifications and characteristics are reviewed that Windows Vista announces, one finds out that they are very novel, but single for world PC, because in the Mac world either they were known outside or in Tiger or previous versions of Mac OS. For example, “a great” change in Windows Vista is that image and not of compressed archives settles from a disc, which will become extensive to the applications for Windows developed by third. This is not new in the Mac world, where as much the operating system as a great amount of applications settles of a disc image or file with extension .DMG, which, in the case of the applications, mounts as a disk drive from which the application crawls or installs.

Another “great” advance of Windows Vista is the motor search, that allows from the Windows Explorer to no longer look for any file only by its name, but by the information including in it puts data, like author, date, properties, style, etc. Allowing to keep the results from the search in which Microsoft has called “virtual folders”. For the user of Mac X Tiger this is not anything new, because Spot Light is indeed in charge to index the archives to accelerate the search, working at the lowest level of the operating system, allowing to quick searches by goal data and storing the results of the searches in “intelligent folders”. Any similarity cannot be mere coincidence! Speaking of the Windows Explorer, an “additional innovation” in him is new options of visualization, that allow showing not only the name of the file but it puts data associate.
Something that the Finder of Mac OS X also already showed.
Another “innovation” more of Windows Vista is its new graphical motor called Avalon, based on vectors and not on bit maps like the previous ones; and its new user interface called Aero. All this allows dim, graphical shades, transparencies and other effects to which the users of Mac OS are already customary.
Between those new graphical effects, new for the users of Windows, they are at least the icons photo realistic, also already common in Mac and a tool that allows to select of between all the opened windows, in as it is desired to work, and that 3D is called Flip, which shows as if they were leaves of a book, the windows so that the user can happen from one to another one and select the one that interests to him. If, it sounds something improved here, but it is the same as that Exposé in Mac OS X acts. In addition to that, Windows Vista includes a lateral bar transparency, in that small applications like calendars visualize, computers, agendas, clocks, etc. called “gadgets”.

Surely this sounds very familiar to the user of Tiger, because it is neither the more nor less than Dashboard and his “widgets”. Another great improvement of Vista Windows is that now it asks for the password of the administrator of the equipment to install any application, something that, by all means, already makes Mac OS X. Also, Vista Windows will be able to keep any document with format XPS, an own format of Microsoft destined to compete with the PDF of Marinates. It is possible to mention that Mac OS X can keep and already open to PDF format without any problem not necessity of plug-ins. All these “new” benefits of Windows Vista demand of more resources in the equipment, and of course, of more investment on the part of the users.
Requirements for these Operations Systems
Minimum requirements for Windows Vista are: Processor: Pentium 4, Celeron D, Athlon 64/XP, Sempron 64/A (of most recent and quick), RAM memory: 256 MB, 512 MB for processors of 64 bits. Video card with 64 MB of memory.
This is recommended: Processor: Dual Core de Intel or AMD, Ram memory: 1 GB for 32 bits and 2 GB for 64 bits. Compatible video card with DirectX9 with 256 MB of memory. You can also visit our page for full Windows Vista requirements guide.
Requirements for Mac OS X Tiger are: Processor PowerPC (the one of IBM) G3, G4 and G5 (that is to say, anyone, the G3 is contemporary of Pentium MMX, known like Pentium I) and now also processor Core Pair (the one of Intel), Memory: 256 MB, are possible to mention that the graphical effects are very well even seen in iMac G3 (iLife), that do not have as powerful video cards as the present ones nor allow to change them with much facility.
In both cases, Windows Vista and Mac Tiger, DVD unit is required, but in the case of Tiger the installation also exists from CD's. In the case of Tiger, it is required in addition to count on FireWire port; a type of unknown port stops most of the PC users.
Additional Improvements
In Windows Vista the Programmer of tasks improved, allowing many new functions, although the use of Apple Scripts in Tiger still surpasses by much the Programmer of tasks of Windows. Apparently, Windows Vista will include everything what has Tiger or no. Or, Windows Vista was going to include a language shell to write scripts in terminal mode, like in the systems Unix, but a malignant virus or script eliminated themselves because of that began to circulate in Internet and that attacked Windows Vista.
Mac OS X if it has the possibility of writing commandos and scripts in terminal mode. Something that it includes the new version of Tiger with the appearance of the Mac based on Intel is the Rosetta application that allow “to translate” in real time compiled applications PowerPC processors and to execute them in an Intel processor.
Windows Vista does not include a similar application because in fact it does not need it, since it conserves compatibility with the technologies previous to .NET In conclusion, it would be possible to be said that Vista is Windows, not only in the aesthetic aspect, but in many of his internal characteristics also. With all these changes, Win.Vista will manage to put itself on a par of Mac OS X Tiger. Unfortunately for Microsoft, it is hoped that for the time in which the released version of Vista Windows appears approximately, in the middle of the 2006, Apple also presents its released version of Mac OS X 10,5, call Leopard.
What new things will bring that they put the distance between Mac OS X and Windows again? That will be a subject to discuss in another occasion. By the way, Vista Windows will be available in seven different versions, from decaffeinated ultra light Start Home Edition, with very many limitations, to the Ultimate Edition, already completes. in contrast to Tiger, that only has two versions, Mac OS X, completes, for work desktop and network, enterprise home or, and Mac OS X Server, for servants. “Not only you think different, you do the difference”
