Microsoft: Discount on additional Vista licenses

Microsoft started the Windows Vista Additional License Program on Monday. With this discount action the software producer wants to give the possibility to all buyers of Windows Vista up to five additional licenses for the operating system at a decent price to acquire.

Windows Vista Previous Versions, System Restore and Disk Space

While checking out where my disk space was being consumed on my Windows Vista machines, I found that System Restore was the main culprit. So to reclaim my lost space I disabled it. Here you can see the before and after impact on the system drive of my desktop close to 3GB was freed:

However what I didn’t know is that the side effect of turning off System Restore is that Previous Versions also becomes unavailable. This can be a bit of a problem as this feature is very useful. What was good timing for me, is a video up on Channel 9 about System Restore and Previous Versions and the Filing Cabinet blog has a post on why the restore points in Windows Vista use so much disk space, both I which I recommend checking out. The video gives a good explaination of how they ensured that System Restore does not negatively impact performance of the system.

Microsoft has admitted that its Windows Live OneCare security suite has inadvertently deleted the emails of a few Outlook and Outlook Express users. The Live OneCare security suite is aimed at protecting families online and includes features such as content filtering technologies, alongwith contact management, activity reports, and guidance on online safety issues.

Microsoft Live OneCare antivirus has been hit this year by constant criticism, having only days ago failed to achieve certification in an independent test of security products. A little before that, it came into sight that the product did not sufficiently protect users of Microsoft Vista operating system against malware.

According to Microsoft they are working in trying to improve the yield of its Antivirus.
