Microsoft prepares Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 for some time already. The expectations raised has nothing to do with the first, but the publisher still hurry to give Windows XP users more reason to migrate to Vista. But according to some reports, the famous Service Pack 2 might be delayed.

As a result, the new schedule, according TechARP would be this one:

  • February: Escrow Release Candidate Build, which means that the main development has been completed and that only the tests of reliability and bug fixes
  • March: Release Candidate
  • Second quarter: Release To Manufacturing (RTM)

The presence of the RTM does not mean that the Service Pack 2 will be downloadable in the wake. There is always a gap between its completion and public availability, because the final version is always sent to partners and OEM before reaching individuals.

It is unknown whether Microsoft sees the future as a Release Candidate public remarks. After all, the beta had been offered for download. But the test of a service pack is not as simple as the public beta of Windows 7 for example: unless you have a system ready for testing, many do not want to risk instability in their machine.

For now, we know that Service Pack 2 will make changes and improvements include:

  • Windows Search 4.0
  • Improved Bluetooth support, for version 2.1
  • A recent improved 64-bit processors VIA
  • New updates improving Application Compatibility
  • Support for exFAT, a file system created specifically for the Flash memory devices and capable among others to synchronize files, taking into account time zones
  • Native support for burning Blu-ray
  • Cards Support ICCD and CCID
  • Launch faster and effective implementation of the Wi-Fi in the revival of the machine
  • The hypervisor Hyper-V is included
  • To the recording of events in SPC
  • The DNS server listening on addresses ISATAP
  • Fixed problems with DRM when updates to Windows Media Player
  • Pack features for wireless
  • Reduced requirements for the Windows Sidebar Gadgets
  • Better control of energy for Windows Server 2008
  • Installer common Vista and Windows Server 2008
  • Is that the “Service Pack Clean up” that can remove all occurrences of files and SP1 RTM versions of Vista that are in SP2
  • Can detect the presence of some drivers not to block the service pack installation to avoid more serious problems
  • The installer registers all events via the system
  • Better management of errors, with publication of more detailed information in case of trouble

Remember that Microsoft has out Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 before Windows 7.
