Mozilla Labs: launching of the Weave project

After PRISM, Mozilla Labs starts a new project called Weave. First possible tests via an extension for beta release 2 of Firefox 3.0.

Always with this same concern of mixing environment of office and Web under control surface of the browser, Mozilla Labs leaves its hat a new project called Weave. Contours of this last are not very clear yet but the posted objective is to stress the means of improving the experiment user under Firefox, of increasing the control of the user on his personal data and of providing to the developers new possibilities of developing innovative experiments on line.

In short, a vast building site resting on the integration of an open and extensible framework within Firefox for a comparison with services.

Mozilla Weave 0.1 to test

Under the features of a complementary module to install in grinding beta 2 of Firefox 3.0, a first preliminary version of Weave can be tested. It is confined essentially with the safeguard and the synchronization of the mark-pages and the history of navigation in order to find them on any Firefox customer. Independently of the material used, a password is enough to be connected on a Weave account to find its environment of navigation.

The framework is for the moment described as basic with a component side waiter installed within the framework of experimentation to hold to the curious users. A version 0.2 of Weave is planned for the beginning of 2008 with of APIs which will make it possible the developers to further go to set up an interaction with online services lodged by Mozilla, the whole in the respect of the private life and the standards of the Web.
