A subsidiary company of the Mozilla Foundation for Thunderbird

The development of the customer Thunderbird email will not be placed soon any more directly under the aegis of the Mozilla Foundation but under that of one of its subsidiary companies.

Since the end of July, to become to it Thunderbird project within the Mozilla Foundation is in question, not so much to put a term at its adventure under Mozilla house but to give him the true means of its ambitions, to offer a free alternative of choice in the field of the customers emails. An objective put in danger by a too great focusing of the members of the Foundation on the Firefox navigator and the resources allocated at this last, to crush those allocated in Thunderbird.

The sometimes surging debate with the inclinations wrongfully allotted to Google, was thus launched by Mitchell Baker who governs the destinies of Mozilla Corporation, and the president to present today on her blog, the solution adopted to ensure a promising future Thunderbird.

Thus, a new subsidiary company with lucrative goal of the Mozilla Foundation will be born from here the next weeks and will be dedicated only to the Thunderbird cause. The destiny chosen for Thunderbird is thus connected with that selected for Firefox during creation into 2005 of Mozilla Corporation, it so subsidiary of the Foundation: “Technically, the new company which does not have a name yet will be a subsidiary company with whole share of the Mozilla Foundation as can be to it Mozilla Corporation”, declared Baker.

With a financial contribution of 3 million dollars of Mozilla, the new company will have to recruit quickly a small team of impassioned by the email and more largely communications Internet. This company will have to take care of the Thunderbird users, to make evolve Thunderbird to a more complete solution email, to take into account the experiment user in the field of communications Internet (necessary is to integrate a functionality of instantaneous transport, improvement on the level of reading RSS, VoIP, SMS,…?), to cause like the dash of the community Firefox.
