As with the status bar, you can toggle the Windows toolbar on or off by choosing View --> Toolbar. But chances are, you won't want to hide the toolbar. Instead, you want to customize it by adding icons for the Windows Messaging functions you use most.

To customize the Windows NT/95 toolbar, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Tools, Customize Toolbar to display the Customize Toolbar dialog box
  2. In the Toolbar Buttons list on the right, select the position where you want to insert the new button. The new button will appear before the button that you select.
  3. In the Available Buttons list on the left, select the button you want to add.
  4. Choose Add to move the selected button from the left-hand list to the one on the right.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have the desired buttons.
  6. If necessary, adjust the position of any button by selecting it in the Toolbar Buttons list, then choosing Move Up or Move Down.
  7. Remove any unwanted buttons by selecting them in the Toolbar Buttons list, then choosing Remove.
  8. When you've finished customizing the toolbar, choose Close to close the Columns dialog box.

Tip: You can return the toolbar to its default setup by choosing Reset on the Customize Toolbar dialog box.
