Learn how to manage your links inside Adobe Dreamweaver. We will guide you step by step process and show you have to update links in local site and also how to create cache of website links.

Adobe Dreamweaver can bring up to date links of document, whenever he is moved in a local site. This resource functions better when the entire site will be stored (or an entire section of this) in the local record. The Dreamweaver does not modify the archives in the remote folder until the local archives are placed or returned to the remote server. To activate the management of links in the Dreamweaver:

  1. Open Adobe Dreamweaver and select “Edit” than choose “Preferences” (Ctrl+U),
  2. Preferences windows is shown,
  3. Now from the categories list on left side of Preferences windows choose “General” and options of general preferences will be show up,
  4. In the section “Document Options” you can see option “Update links when moving files” from drop down menu choose “Prompt” (by default it should be setup on Always). If you choose option “Always”, the Dreamweaver will bring up to date all automatically links for a selected document, whenever he is moved or renamed,
  5. If you choose options “Prompt” the Dreamweaver will show a box of dialogue first contends a list of all the archives affected for the alteration. Click in “Update”, to bring up to date links in these archives, or “Don’t Update” to leave them unchanged,
  6. After you choose which options you want click on OK button

To become faster the update process, the Dreamweaver can create an archive of cache, in which it will store information on all links of the local folder. This archive of cache will be created when the Cache option will be selected in the box of dialogue Definition of the site, and will be brought up to date during the use of the Dreamweaver to add, to modify or to exclude links the archives in the local site. To create an archive of cache of the site fallow next steps:

  1. Choose “Site” than “Edit Site”
  2. Site Management windows will show up,
  3. Select your site and after that choose Edit. In the list of categories choose “Local Info”, here you should see option “Enable Cache” checked, if not check this options

On the first time where links the archives will be modified or excluded in the local site, after to have initiated the Dreamweaver, this applicatory one will request the load to it of cache. If you click on “Yes”, cache will be loaded and the Dreamweaver will bring up to date all links to the modified archive. If you choose “No”, the alterations could be observed in cache, however this will not be loaded and the Dreamweaver will not bring up to date links.

It is possible that cache delays some minutes to be loaded for bigger websites; most of this period is spends in the comparison enters the schedules of the archives in the local site and those registering in cache, in order to verify if this are outdated.
