If you after these tips still didn't fix your problem then point to our Windows XP forums where you can post you question and get answer for very short time.

They accomplish a repair installation under Windows XP. After the first restart during the Setups the set UP program requests the file „Asms “from the XP-Installation in the path „global roots \ DEVICEs \ cdrom0 \ i386 “. Here there are however no files. The installation cannot be continued therefore. We explain to you, how you can solve this problem.

Solution:

This problem arises, if the set UP program cannot access the CD/DVD ROM drive assembly. A cause is usually on the PC installed programs for the emulation of CD drive assemblies. There are two possibilities of repairing the error and of continuing the installation.

Possibility 1:

Copy the listing „i386 “including contents of that Windows XP Setup CD on the non removable disk. Since your system does not run momentarily, need for it either a second Windows installed parallel on the computer or a Windows, which you can start from CD. Boat it after the copying action the PC again. The XP-Setup-program restarts, and which appears described error message. Indicate then as source for the set UP files the file „to i386 “on the non removable disk.

Possibility 2:

If neither a second Windows installation is to you or beard PE CD at the disposal, you must hit the undokumentierten way over the Registry:

  1. Start the PC, and you wait, until the error message appears.
  2. Over the combination of keys <Shift>-<F10> you can open a request for input (CMD.EXE) during a repair installation. Enter on the command line „regedit.exe “, and you confirm with <Enter>.
  3. In the registration editor you click then on „Hkey_Local_Machine “, go on „file, structure “and select the file %Windir% \ System32 \ Config load \ System.SAV. In the following dialogue you enter and confirm as key name for example „to Z “with „OK ONE “.
  4. Go to the first key with the name „to Hkey_Local_Machine \ Z \ ControlSet001 \ control \ Class \ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} “, and you delete the value here „LowerFilters “. Even if there is a value „UpperFilters “, delete these likewise.
  5. Repeat step 4 for each further control set key (ControlSet002, ControlSet003…).
  6. If you click to Z on „Hkey_Local_Machine \ “, go on „file, structure remove “, and you confirm the following dialogue with „“.

Start now the computer again. The set UP program should continue its work without error message now. The software, which was responsible for the problem, does not work thereafter however because of the missing Registry entries any longer, and you must again install it.

TIP: The way over the Registry, described in possibility 2, can likewise help you, if after a missed De-installation of burning software or a CD emulator no access to the CD or DVD drive assembly is possible.
