You probably have Windows XP which you buy few years ago and in that time XP Service Pack 2 didn’t exist, so after SP1 was available you have to install him separately every time you install Windows XP.
I know how much time you have to wait to unpack and install Service Pack 2, and because of that I decided to show you how you can integrate SP2 in the installation of Windows XP; it will then be installed automatically at the same time as Windows XP.
Another advantage and not least, by integrating the Service Pack 2 to Windows XP CD, you limit the risks of conflicts in future installations Windows components.
There are few things you have to do before you even start with integration; first thing what you have to do it to:
a. Download the Service Pack 2 file from Microsoft.com website,
b. Then click on the Download button.
- The download starts then. Save the file in any folder on your hard drive, C:\SP2\ for example. The size of SP is 260MB so depending of your connection speed it may take some time to complete downloading. If you use a Dial-Up connection to access the Internet, downloading 261 MB of Service Pack 2 are likely to take several days.
- Then create on your hard drive folder CD_WINXP. Put it in your entire Windows XP CD.
- Create a folder inside which you will unpack Windows XP Service Pack 2 files. Call it by example WinXP_SP2.
- Then, open a window of command prompt by clicking the Start button, select Programs, Accessories and then Command Prompt.
- Enter the command cd C:\SP2\ then press Enter to go to the folder where you have downloaded the Service Pack 2. If you downloaded SP2 in other directory then you have to type that location within command prompt.
- Then enter the command WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe-x then press Enter. A dialog box will open asking you where to extract the Service Pack 2.
- Click the Browse button and select the folder WinXP_SP2 you created earlier. Validate OK to start extracting files contained in the Service Pack 2 package.
Update the installation of Windows XP
- Once the transaction is completed extraction return to the prompt window. Enter the command cd c: \WinXP_SP2\i386\ update then press Enter to put you in the subfolder Update,
- Enter the command to update S-C: \ CD_WINXP replacing C: \ CD_WINXP on the path to the folder where you copied your Windows XP CD. Validate by the Enter key.
- The Service Pack 2 installation wizard opens. The integration of files Service Pack 2 with those of your Windows XP CD is done automatically.
- After a few minutes, a dialog box warned you the success of the operation. The CD copy of Windows XP on your hard drive then integrates the Service Pack 2.
Before burning the CD of Windows XP updated with Service Pack 2, which is on your hard drive, you need to get the startup information (or boot loader) CD of Windows XP. This allows you to make your bootable CD.
To extract the boot loader of your original CD of Windows XP, you need a program like IsoBuster whose basic version is free.
- First you have to download IsoBuster
- Then insert your Windows XP CD in your drive and select the latter from the drop down menu in the IsoBuster toolbar.
- The various elements that make up the CD are then displayed in the left panel of the window. Select the folder Bootable CD.
- In the right panel, click the right mouse button on the object Microsoft Corporation.img. Then from context menu select the command Extract Microsoft Corporation.img.
- In the Explorer window that opens, select the folder containing the files of Windows XP updated with Service Pack 2, C: \CD_WINXP\ in my case.
- Click the Save button to copy the startup information. You can then close ISOBuster.
Burn CD Windows XP with SP2 integrated
- To burn your new CD of Windows XP and integrate at the same time the startup information that you get with IsoBuster, we will use the burning software Nero Burning ROM 6.
- After running Nero Burning ROM, click on the element CD-ROM (primer) of the New compilation window.
- Under the heading Model for the bootable CD Boot tab, select File image.
- With the Browse button, select the Microsoft Corporation.img file in the folder containing Windows XP Service Pack 2. If the file does not pull down the type list of files and select All files (*.*).
- Then menu Options. Choose Not emulation in the list type of emulation and fix the number of sectors read at 4.
- Then click on the tab ISO. Make sure ISO Level 1, Mode 1 and ISO 9660 are selected.
- Check the boxes also Joliet, Permit a depth of paths of more than 8 directories, Permit more than 255 characters on the road and Do not add the file extension ISO ', 1'.
- Then click on the tab Label and enter in the Name text box volume the same name as your original CD of Windows XP: WINXP_FR for example.
- Then click the New button to proceed to the selection of files to put on your CD. In the File Explorer window, select all files and subfolders in the dossier CD_WINXP then drag in the window of the CD (titled ISO1).
- Run the burn from the File menu and clicking the Burn CD command. In the Burn tab, check the boxes Write and finalize the CD. Pull down the list then writing method and select Disk wide.
