Workstation service doesn’t exist, bring it back

Workstation Service in Windows XP OS is connected with Client for Microsoft networks addition for network. You need to check that Client for Microsoft Networks is already installed.

  1. Go to Control Panel and open Networks Connections. This you can do by going to Start-->Run... and type Control Panel and press Enter (OK). Control Panel window will open and here you can find Networks Connections,
  2. Only if you don't have any connections create new one. If you don't know how to create a connection click here. If you have created Dial-Up, Wireless, LAN etc. connection continue to next step,
  3. Right mouse click on that connection and choose option Properties,
  4. You need to find a tab which has three buttons (Install, Uninstall, Properties),
  5. When you find it, above those three buttons you will see the list of available additions. Here you should find File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network, QoS Packet scheduler, internet protocol (TCP/IP) and few more other additions which dependence of you computer,
  6. If you can't find Client for Microsoft network, click on install...,
  7. Double mouse click on Client and mark Client for Microsoft Networks and click on OK. Installation will probably search for Windows XP installation CD so you should have him in CD-ROM (you can also use Windows XP SP1 CD),

After installation is finish, in Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Services you should have Workstation which is necessary for undisturbed work of most applications.
