If your computer acting strange when you playing a game, always restarting, freezing, jumping in windows it is certainly that you have problems which are connected with graphic card. Problem can be simple and can be fix with drivers changing or turning off some of background programs. But problem can also be very complicate which require works on graphic card. Here some advices which you could try if you have same problems.

Note: Advices are for nVidia graphic card but some of them could be use on ATI. You should always read game requirements for every game or "Read Me" files in game CD which can describe problem which can happen with that game and how you can solve that problem. Also if you computer don't meet game requirement don't expect too much from these advices. These advices are intended for those who have problems, not to those which have problems with slow game working. To fix Problems with Game Try Next:

1. Try to change drivers.
Drivers can make problems to much often. Some drivers are good optimize for you graphic model, but other are not and they are optimize for new models. Generally new drivers are always better, but there is questions are they gone work OK on you graphic card. Drivers which you need are drivers which were popular when your graphic card was on markets. We recommend that you try some of popular tests like 3D Mark 2xxx version and download patch for her, and then test your computer with existing drivers. Result which you get save them, than install next version of drivers (Old or new) and test you computer again. Compare results and then you can see which driver match to your computer.

2. Check DirectX version.
Sometimes is necessary that you check which DirectX version is necessary for game. Sometimes happens that DirectX files are damage and then they can cause the problem. Generally every game on CD already have DirectX version which match to that game. If you have older version than game recommended version you need to install new one from CD. If you have new version you don't need to install older version. Usually you can find in ReadMe file which DirectX version is required for that game. To see which DirectX version you have install go to Start --> Run… and type dxdiag and click OK. DirectX version is on bottom of new open window, it should look like this "DirextX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)". We recommend that you always install newest drivers.

3. Check does any program making problem.
It is possible that some programs which are startup when your game making problems. Programs which are making problems more often are programs which protecting your computer from viruses, firewall programs, windows services, system optimize programs etc. We recommend that you turn off all these programs and try to start the game. If after these setups game work OK repeat this operation every time when you run the game. It is not necessary that your antivirus program or firewall be turned on all time, turn him on only when you are on internet or when you working with new applications. You computer can't be infected from himself.

4. Try to find drivers for monitor.
Drivers for monitor are important like every other driver. Find and install drivers for monitor. Setup screen refresh rate so he match to you monitor, don't go above 85Hz. Generally resolutions from 640x480 to 1024x768 and on most monitors to 1152x854 can work in 85Hz on all monitors. If you want to be sure that you problem is not connected with screen refresh rate try to find software ReForce. Inside this software setup all refresh on 60Hz and see those this fix you problem, If you still have problems try other refresh rate (72Hz, 75Hz, etc.). Every time you change refresh rate you need to turn on Vertical Sync (VSync) for D3D and for OpenGL

5. If there is no effect, play with your driver's.
Sometimes is necessary to locate a problem and then looking for a solution. If nothing of these 4 advices did not help you we recommend you to find program Riva Tuner and install him. When you run this software he will make data base with your drivers and setups. If you change drivers you need to reinstall this software or you can make new data base Manuel. To do that Click on Customize... option in section Target Adapter next to name of your graphic card. Choose Customize LowLevel System Settings. Go to NVStrap Driver tab and click on button install. After that try to change Sideband Addressing and Fastwrites parameters. In AGP tab you can try with setups of AGP Transfer rate parameter. Under Drivers Settings click on Customize and first choose directdraw and direct3D settings than choose OpenGL settings. Setup VSync tab options on "always off" and turn-off antialiasing. Try with other option from these tabs. If this was not helpful try to reduce clock of you graphic card and graphic memory.

6. Reinstall Windows
Windows can also be cause of many problems. Try to uninstall all Qxxxxxxx updates which windows were installed or which you did install. If problem was eliminated, install Qxxxxxxx updates 2 by 2 and see when problem will return. When you see which update make problem skip that Qxxxxxxx update. Also you can try to install Windows XP Service Pack 2 and all Qxxxxxxx updates. It is possible that some of those update which are missing making the problem. Next what you need to try is to reinstall whole Windows. If you don't know how to do that visit our Windows XP Installation section. We mention that you don't install windows just reinstall him and leave all files intact. If Reinstallation do not help now you need to Format System partition and install fresh copy of Windows, but first make backup of all files from System partition. After Installation is Finish First you need to do is to install only Graphic Drivers and if problem is eliminated than install other drivers one by one and see when that problem will return.
