Click the Start Button. If you compare the Start button with earlier versions of Windows you notice that Start Menu looks a bit different but much of it is the same. The left panel of the Start Menu displays the recently opened programs as well as links to all programs installed on the system. The bottom of the left panel includes the search box that’s new in Windows Vista. You can use this box to search for information’s on your computer quickly.
The right panel of the Start Menu contains links to your default folders, recent items you opened and Vista features such as Network Setting, Control Panel and Online Help.
The bottom of right panel contains the yellow Sleep button and the Lock button as well as the list of Log Of options. When you click "All Programs" the list of programs appears on the left panel. This is different arrangement from the Start Menu in past versions of Windows where a popup menu would appear to the right side of All Programs button.
In left panel you can scroll up and down and open the program you want, if the program is in a folder double click the folder and the program appears under neat of folder name. If you have the Start Menu opened you can close it by clicking anywhere else on the screen.
