Removing outmoded registered file types

If you right-click a window or the desktop and you select New, Windows 98 offers you a list of file types that you can create. Often times there is an item that refers to an application that you have gotten rid of. This can get really annoying because you list can have lots of useless items on it. You can get rid of these items in a My Computer window by:

  1. In My Computer , from the View menu click Options.
  2. Click the File Types tab.
  3. Scroll through the list of registered file types.
  4. Select the files you want to remove from the New list, and click remove.
  5. Click Yes to confirm.
  6. Click Close and the unwanted items are will be gone from the list.
